But what they don&#8217;t say, or if they do it is in the very small print, YOU NEED YOUR DIET INTAKE TO BE SPOT ON! None of these diet pills can burn off your excess belly fat if your eating pizzas and fast food. That is just not going to happen.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Fad diets are an American tradition.  What was all the rage a few months ago is dropped in the proverbial blink of an eye for the latest and greatest way to &#8220;easy&#8221; and &#8220;fast&#8221; weightloss.  These fads may be a great way to lose about five or ten pounds quickly as an emergency measure, but they can never be a lifetime plan due their extremely restrictive nature, and lack of balance.</p>
<p>These types of diets are only good for the short term, and in fact, may make you fatter once you&#8217;re off of the plan since they often lead to &#8220;rebound over-eating&#8221; and yo yo dieting, both of which harm your metabolism by constantly leaving it in a state of confusion.  If you are thinking of trying one of these fads, you may want to also try a quality, natural appetite suppressant since most of these diets will leave you in a constant state of hunger.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll examine this year&#8217;s fad diets.  Believe it or not, some of these have actually been circulating for a while and are still a popular diet for quick weight loss &#8211; mostly via word of mouth.  These diets have aquired somewhat of a mythology about them over time.  A person you know probably knows someone or heard stories of someone who lost a drastic amount of weight on them.</p>
<p><strong>Popular Fad Diets, Summarized</strong></p>
<p>1.)  <strong>Cabbage Soup Diet</strong></p>
<p>What It Is:  You make a cabbage soup concoction consisting of broth, lots of cabbage, onions, celery and a few other acceptable veggies.  You consume nothing but this soup for days, or for as long as you can stand it, and get to gradually add in very small amounts of normal food.</p>
<p>Why It&#8217;s Hard:  You may never want to eat soup or look at another carrot or onion again after this diet.  Your hunger is never satisfied, because largely what you are consuming is water based, and that is why you can drop weight so quickly &#8211; you are not eating anything of real substance.  Your stomach is in knots with gas pain and hunger.  Bottom line is, this diet is very tough to stick to.  When you first try the soup, you think &#8220;Hmm, not bad&#8221;, but you will soon change your mind.  The reward is very rapid weight loss.  The problem is, as with all other fad diets, it comes back on just as rapidly if not quicker than it came off when the diet is over.  Doctors actually prescribe this diet for patients who need to lose weight quickly for surgery.</p>
<p>2.)  <strong>The Famous Atkins Diet</strong></p>
<p>What It Is:  This is basically &#8220;The all you can eat &#8211; as long as it&#8217;s pure protein diet&#8221;.  This diet gained a huge following almost immediately after Dr. Atkins released the Atkins Diet book to publication, and experienced another resurgence in about 2001 as a quick and easy way to melt the pounds off quickly without sacrificing too much.  It attracted quite a bit of criticism due its extreme and unbalanced nature, as well as a concentration on high fat and cholesterol foods, with little fiber and sometimes little nutritional value.</p>
<p>The foods it centers around are cheese, bacon, chicken, eggs, turkey, beef and snacks like pork rinds.  Although the Atkins diet is extreme in </p>
<p> nature, it paved the way for more balanced, heart and health friendly diets such as The Zone Diet and the South Beach Diet (two of my favorites), which preach more of a moderation mentality, balance, and a focus on more healthy, whole and unprocessed foods and a somewhat restricted calorie plan that doesn&#8217;t leave you hungry.</p>
<p>Why It&#8217;s Hard:  Your body goes into a state of ketosis due to a lack of carbs and sugars.  You get bad breath.  You may feel malnourished and weak &#8211; a sign of ketosis.  The lack of fiber often leads to constipation.  When you get hungry, you get HUNGRY!  You may never want to look at another egg again in your life, and feel nauseous at the sight of meat.</p>
<p>3.)  <strong>The All You Can Eat for Seven Days Diet</strong></p>
<p>What It Is:  You get to choose from one food group each of the seven days.  One day may be all chicken, one may be all fruit, and one may be all vegetables, with minimal restrictions on which ones are not allowed.  You can eat as much as you want as long as it is within that one food group for each assigned day.</p>
<p>Why It&#8217;s Hard:  Try eating one food group all day.  It&#8217;s very hard.  This diet is almost guaranteed to cause a grumbling belly, since no one food can usually satiate anyone&#8217;s appetite or sustain a feeling of fullness for any length of time.  Variety is the spice of life, and this applies two-fold to diet boredom and how it leads ot overeating and binges.  Once you go off of this diet, you will almost surely gain the weight back, and fast.  The problem with diets like this is that they trigger an overeating response due to severe deprivation.</p>
<p>4.)  <strong>The Snickers Diet</strong></p>
<p>What It Is:  You get to eat only Snickers candy bars and may drink coffee or water only with this fad diet.  I&#8217;m actually not sure how many Snickers bars are allowed per day, but do know someone that has a friend who lost over thirty pounds following this diet, but sacrificed her health, her skin and mental well being in the process.</p>
<p>Why It&#8217;s Hard:  The first and most obvious reason this diet is unhealthy is that it is based on a calorie dense, high sugar content food, which leads to:  high blood sugar, hunger, terrible skin problems, terrible breath, constipation, immune breakdown, unhealthy heart, loss of mental focus and clarity.</p>
<p>There are, of course, many other fad diets that have come and gone, but these are some of the more extreme and interesting ones.  While fad diets are tempting to try as a quick fix for drastic and fast weight loss, they should be regarded with caution.  Most fad diets lead to larger subsequent weight gains because they are based on deprivation.  So, as long as you know what you&#8217;re getting going into it, and don&#8217;t expect to use it as a long term solution to losing weight or maintaining weight loss, then you&#8217;ll be prepared for the outcome.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Your Non-Conscious Mind is 98% of your full power.</p>
<p>Your Inner Knowing is about 986,743 times more powerful than your non-conscious mind.</p>
<p>The reason being is because this inner knowing has direct access to harness the infinite powers of the universe to produce results. Some people call this your higher self, your God presence within, your inner CEO, your innate wisdom and a host of other things. The main idea here is there is a power in the universe that created you and everything else. And when you get this power on your side in creating what you want, it becomes easy and almost effortless.</p>
<p>The inner knowing is your connection to this power and is like the non-conscious mind in how it just takes orders and does as it is told. Your inner knowing takes all your orders, just like the non-conscious mind, unless you tell it otherwise. What this means is every time you have a thought, see a picture, say something to yourself, etc, etc, your inner knowing is listening and following directions.</p>
<p>Now stop and think for a moment, how many times a day do you have a thought, say something to yourself or out loud or picture something you don&#8217;t want? You inner knowing is overwhelmed by all the contradicting messages it is getting. That is why it is so difficult for it to produce results for you. When you are only having thoughts for the same goal or purpose your inner knowing very clearly knows what to act on and in what direction.</p>
<p>This is why when you work at it, train your mind, focus and be conscious you start producing results. Your inner knowing after hours and days of getting told the same thing, with other stuff mixed in, finally gets it. Your inner knowing goes, oh, I guess this is what you really want. Then it begins harnesing the powers of the universe to help you fulfill that request.</p>
<p>Now I am about to share with you an amazing tip that will exponentially speed up the results of everything I have shared with you in the previous lessons. You ready?</p>
<p>You can tell your inner knowing what to listen to and what not to listen to. For example: I told my inner knowing that when ever I pause and say &#8220;I AM&#8221; or &#8220;Inner Knowing&#8221; – whatever is immediately followed by those words are what I want you to pay attention to. All my other thoughts, ideas, pictures, words, etc you can ignore. In this way I do not have to spend months and years training my thoughts to only be solely focused on what I want before I start seeing results.</p>
<p>Action Step: Create your signal to Your Inner knowing (which can be the same as mine) and tell your inner knowing you only want that which immediately follows that signal to be acted upon. Then use this signal to let your inner knowing know what you want help with.</p>
<p>When You do this, you will skyrocket your results in any area of your life you ask your inner knowing for help with.</p>
<p>Well there is one catch with that.</p>
<p>You inner knowing </p>
<p> processes your requests through the &#8220;filter&#8221; of your purpose. Whatever you and your inner knowing have created your life purpose to be (irregardless of whether you did it consciously or not). If your requests are inline with fulfilling your life purpose, you are golden and will achieve results with minimal effort. If your requests are not inline with your life purpose, all the struggle, effort and work you can imagine will not produce lasting results.</p>
<p>You and your inner knowing create your purpose. And for most people, they did it unconsciously. Which means that if you want something different, you can now create a new purpose consciously. Your inner knowing has absolute &#8220;Veto&#8221; power over your new purpose. Which means if you create one your inner knowing doesn&#8217;t like, it won&#8217;t accept it.</p>
<p>Communication with your Inner knowing is a two way street. When you put in a request for a new purpose, if you pay attention you will get a signal, sign, awareness or some form of knowing if the new purpose was approved or not. You can even ask for a sign so big, you will know beyond any shadow of a doubt if the new purpose was granted approval. If not, you can ask if the idea needs to be changed, parts of it need to be changed, if there is something you need to learn or know for it to be accepted, if it is a conditional acceptance or if you have to scrap the purpose all together and go in a completely different direction.</p>
<p>Little hint, making money will almost never be part of your purpose. But guess what, if you are making money in a way that is fulfilling on your purpose, you can make as much of it as you want.</p>
<p>Often when someone&#8217;s purpose is getting in the way of being thin and healthy, it is only because there is something to learn or be aware of and your inner knowing is using your extra weight as a way to make sure you get what it is trying to tell you.</p>
<p>The signals I talked about with letting your inner knowing be aware of when you want it to listen can be seen in another light as well. For some this is the same thing as praying to God. If you do it in a &#8216;structured way&#8217; it is creating a signal to your inner knowing (holy spirit) unleashing the unlimited powers of God (the universe) to help give you exactly that.</p>

<p>A huge variety of fitness activities provide cardiovascular benefits. If you&#8217;re breathing hard and can feel your heart beating, you&#8217;re doing cardio. Because walking is fun, easy, and requires little time and no financial investment, it&#8217;s our top choice for cardiovascular activity.</p>
<p>Walking uses your body&#8217;s largest muscle group, your legs. Because it&#8217;s rhythmic (you repeat the same basic movements), and it&#8217;s aerobic (you take in and use more oxygen than usual), when walking is sustained for more than several minutes at a time it provides fantastic cardiovascular benefits &#8211; including weight loss &#8211; and can be quickly and easily implemented into your daily routine.</p>
<p>Walking at a moderate pace for about 30-60 minutes burns stored fat, and can build muscle to help speed up your metabolism, burning fat even while you sleep! So, let&#8217;s start moving&#8230;</p>
<p>First, wake up your muscles by walking at a warm-up pace for five minutes, signaling to your muscles that they can&#8217;t just sit back and burn up the available sugars, they need to tap into your fat reserves. This means not starting your daily walk at a high speed. On the contrary, a low-intensity or low-speed start signals your muscles that you are engaging in a long-term activity, prompting the burning of stored fat, and not just sugar burning.</p>

The speed to walk at for optimal fat burning is a &#8220;determined&#8221; pace, at which rate you should be breathing noticeably harder, but still able to carry on a conversation in full sentences. By doing this, you raise your heart rate to about 70% of your maximum heart rate, which acts as acatalyst for burning stored fat.</p>
<p>Try walking as though you&#8217;re 15 minutes late for an important appointment. Now, start with walking at this pace for 30 minutes each day. For optimal weight loss, walk at least 5 days of the week, with weekly time spent walking eventually reaching 5 or more hours each week.</p>
<p>Use the following &#8220;cheat sheet&#8221; to help implement a quick and easy walking program into your daily routine:</p>
<p>• Start with a few gentle stretches</p>
<p>• Begin walking at an easy pace for five minutes</p>

<p>• Cool down at a slower pace for 5 minutes</p>

<p>Walking an hour a day is also associated with drastically decreasing your risk of heart disease, breast cancer, colon cancer, diabetes and stroke. Find time to work one-hour walks into your life. It&#8217;s well worth waking up an hour early to do so. After all, aren&#8217;t you worth it?</p>
<p>When you feel you can comfortably walk an hour on a single day each week, try the following weekly schedule for increased weight loss and added health benefits, alternating the days to fit your personal weekly schedule:</p>
<p>Sunday: Long Day, 90+ minutes</p>
<p>Monday: Day Off</p>
<p>Tuesday: Short Day, 30+ minutes</p>
<p>Wednesday: Short Day, 30+ minutes</p>
<p>Thursday: Long Day, 90+ minutes</p>
<p>Friday: Short Day, 30+ minutes</p>
<p>Saturday: Long Day, 60+ minutes</p>
<p>On all days, remember to start with some light stretches. Start walking slow for 5 minutes. Walk at your &#8220;determined&#8221; pace of 70% of your maximum heart rate for the time specified, concluding with an easy pace for five minutes. Always finish with gentle stretching. Lastly, when walking for weight loss, you should take no more than one to two days off each week.</p>

That’s why I have decided to present you some diet plans for a low carb diet.</p>
<p>One of the most known is the Atkins diet. It mainly consists of four phases: first phase has the purpose to induce “benign dietary ketosis” that will help the body to produce the fat mobilization substance; once this substance is being produced the body is forced to disgorge and burn up deposited body fat; this is the time when you start loosing weight. The second phase continues the process and tries to remove some of the food restrictions. This will last until you achieve the desired weight.</p>
<p>The third phase prepares you for the last one. Now you will change your diet into a maintenance diet and you will lose very slowly the last extra pounds. The last phase is the maintenance diet and its purpose is to maintain the target weight for life. This is </p>
<p> achieved by setting a fairly strict diet that will forever keep off the lost weight. The person is urged to stick to the carbohydrate level they feel happiest on without gaining weight.</p>
<p>Another popular diet plan for a low carb diet is Eat Fat Get Thin. This is a high fat, low carb plan, which allows 60g carbohydrates per day and calories are unrestricted. The method is to reduce your intake of refined carbs. In order to do this you can eat as much as you want of any meat, fish, poultry, cheese, cream butter and eggs; you can also have green leafy vegetables. You are allowed to eat vegetables and fruits, avoiding the sweeter ones. You should cut of foods with a large amount of sugar and cereals, and you should give up eating bread, or eat as less as you can. This diet was a success for the one who wrote it, and it can be for you, too.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You have finally decided to tackle weight management and lose that pesky weight but you still don&#8217;t know where to start. Sometimes it is tougher to get started than to keep going! Before you do, there are a few things to think about first.</p>
<p>1. How much weight do you want to lose?  First, if you are overweight, a loss of 5 to 15 percent of your body weight may improve many of the problems linked to being overweight, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. The American Dietetic Association suggests weight management goals be based on achieving the best weight possible in the context of overall health. Achieving an ideal Body Mass Index is not always realistic or desirable.</p>
<p>2. You Don&#8217;t Have To Lose It All Today.</p>
<p>There is a temptation to take drastic measures to lose lots of weight quickly. This is a huge mistake. If you lose weight too fast, you are likely to lose muscle rather than fat and also increase your chances of developing other health issues such as gout and gallbladder problems.Try and think about your weight loss as a process. Take it one pound at a time. This should keep you from feeling so overwhelmed.</p>
<p><B>3.Come up with a plan to prevent Stress Eating.</B></p>
<p>According to research, yo-yo dieters tend to turn to food for comfort. (When you inhale a bag of chips after a fight with your boyfriend or coworker, your using foods to cope with your stress.) Successful weight managent means finding ways to address the problem directly. Stress can make weight loss difficult. Finding ways to outsmart it is the key. But you can OVERCOME IT&#8230;Ask yourself </p>
<p> whats driving your emotions. Are you tired? Emotional? Anxious? Once you find out what the cause is, you can come up with another way to release it without stuffing your face with junk. Try taking a walk, writing in a journal or take a bath. Trying stress- reducing activities such as meditation can serve as a preventative measure as well.</p>
<p>4. Have Fun. Weight management is not about forcing yourself through a diet. Most successful people say they feel great! They give themselves the ok to have something they want. That way they do not feel like they are giving up all their favorite foods. Focus on the positive changes and how you feel. Instead of saying &#8220;I can&#8217;t have that&#8221;, figure out how you can fit it into your diet.</p>
<p>Give yourself non-food rewards. Buy yourself something nice. New jeans, that massage you have been wanting. Buy yourself some great workout gear that will motivate you.</p>
<p>5. Figure out your emotional reason for staying on track. Make a list of all the reasons you want to lose weight. I don&#8217;t mean saying because you want to look hot in a bikini. I am talking about picturing yourself feeling uncomfortable in a bikini, but uncomfortable in yor clothes! What makes you shudder when you think about staying the way you are?</p>
<p>Think about all these while deciding to make a change. Just remember, YOU CAN DO IT! IT IS ATTAINABLE! Believe in yourself and you can reach your goal of weight management and weight loss.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So many people are talking about how slow their metabolism is and why they need to start taking the latest diet supplement scam yet they don’t even understand how the human metabolism works. So before I even go into how to speed yours up, I want to first go over some of the basics.</p>
<p>What is metabolism?</p>
<p>Although there are many scientific ways for me explain it, and I could make it seem really confusing like most of the so-called experts do, but I won’t. I’m going to give you my extremely simple and easy to understand definition&#8230; metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories to sustain life</p>
<p>I should also note that your body, yes yours, burns calories 24 hours a day, everyday – regardless of whether or not you workout. Remember that your body needs energy all the time, even while you’re asleep and that is why skipping meals is the absolute worst thing you can do if your goal is to lose weight (body fat).</p>
<p>Before we go any further let’s talk about what affects metabolism&#8230;</p>
<p>What affects metabolism?</p>
<p>What do you think has the biggest impact on your metabolism? Activity levels? Your Thyroid? Age?</p>
<p>WRONG! WRONG! and WRONG! Activity levels, Thyroid function, and age do affect metabolism but not nearly as much as&#8230;</p>
<p>Any idea?  It’s muscle tissue! The more muscle you have the more calories you burn regardless of how active you are, how old you are, etc. It’s live tissue and it’s there working for you and burning calories 24 hours a day – each and every day!</p>
<p>Here’s a list of some of the factors affecting metabolism in order of greatest impact to least:</p>
<ul>
<p>
<li>muscle tissue (you already know why this is on the top of the list)</p>
<p>
<li>meal frequency (the longer you go between meals the more your metabolism slows down to conserve energy)</p>
<p>
<li>activity level (important but doesn’t make any difference if you don’t match your eating to your expenditure)</p>
<p>
<li>food choices (ex. low-fat diets tend to result in poor hormone production which leads to a slower metabolism)</p>
<p>
<li>hydration (over 70% of bodily functions take place in water – not enough water causes all your systems to slow down and unnecessary stress)</p>
<p>
<li>genetics (some people have higher metabolisms than others – you can’t change genetics but you can still win the battle!)</p>
<p>
<li>hormone production and function (think you have a slow thyroid? it’s not likely – before you go blame it on the thyroid first stabilize your blood sugar and throw in some progressive exercise 2-3 times each week)</p>
<p>
<li>stress (stress also can slow metabolism by placing extra stress and strain on numerous systems. plus, many people tend to overeat when “stressed out”)</p>
</ul>
<p>Why does it slow down?</p>
<p>How many times have you heard someone say, “as soon as you hit 30 your metabolism slows down”? Maybe you’ve said it. I know I hear it all the time and I got tired of hearing it so I did a little research and found that the metabolism does NOT slow down significantly due to aging but DOES due to a lack of muscle. And, you don’t lose muscle quickly due to aging either but due to a decrease or lack of physical stress.</p>
<p>So, the major cause of a slowing metabolism is three fold&#8230;</p>
<ol>
<p>
<li>you lose muscle due to the lack of physical stress</p>
<p>
<li>your body cannibalizes muscle when it needs energy but you won’t supply any because you are “dieting” and skipping meals</p>
<p>
<li>your activity levels tend to decrease as you get older</p>
</ol>
<p>So now that we know the problem&#8230; what’s the solution? Address those 3 issues! I’ve found through years of experience helping hundreds of people, that increasing your metabolism and getting rid of that excess body fat can often times be quite easy! Yet you’ll hear of all these experts telling you how hard it is and why you need to buy their new diet program, supplement, or fitness contraption.</p>
<p>It’s not that hard, it doesn’t have to be confusing, and you don’t need any of that crap! All you need is an understanding of how your body works and the willingness to make some small changes.</p>
<p>Here’s my basic formula for jump starting your metabolism:</p>
<p>Step 1 &#8211; Stop the storage of new fat</p>
<p>It doesn&#8217;t make any sense to start an exercise program if you just end up </p>
<p> adding new fat later that day. This is a problem that is very common among people who start an exercise in an attempt to lose weight.</p>
<p>See the problem is this&#8230;</p>
<p>We don’t get fat due to a lack of exercise – we get fat because we supply the body with more calories than it needs at a given time. So the solution has nothing to do with exercise – it’s all about your eating! And I’m not saying you have to eat low-fat, super clean and healthy diet consisting of salad and tofu only. You can still eat the foods you like IF you can give the body just the amount it needs.</p>
<p>The key is to give the body the energy it needs, but just that amount and not a bunch extra because extra is extra is extra, it doesn’t matter what it’s from. Salad can be stored as fat, celery can be stored as fat – if it results in extra it can be stored as fat. I should also note that not all extra energy is stored in the fat cells and I will touch on that later.</p>
<p>So forget about trying to burn off any fat unless you can first stop storing new fat! Again, you do that by matching your eating to your activity level. This means small, balanced meals or snacks every 2-3 hours and the amount of calories in each feeding should depend on how active you are at that time of day.</p>
<p>Step 2 – Attack the existing fat</p>
<p>This requires a combination approach consisting of stable blood sugar/energy levels, and progressive cardiovascular/aerobic exercise and strength training.</p>
<p>We already talked about how important stable blood sugar and energy levels are and how to match your eating to your activity level so now I’d like to cover the exercise part of the equation.</p>
<p>In order for the exercise to even be worth your time you must be sure it’s progressive. Just because you run on the treadmill for 30 minutes three times a week, that doesn’t mean your body has to burn off that unwanted body fat! You have to force the body to make changes and improvements and the ONLY way to do that is to consistently provide a stimulus or stress that is greater than what the body is used to.</p>
<p>Here are some general guidelines on how you can make your exercise progressive and productive:</p>
<p>Strength training</p>
<ul>
<p>
<li>Change exercises frequently (every 2-4 weeks)</p>
<p>
<li>Increase resistance</p>
<p>
<li>Perform more reps</p>
<p>
<li>Slower reps</p>
<p>
<li>Advanced techniques</p>
</ul>
<p>Cardiovascular training</p>
<ul>
<p>
<li>Increase speed/resistance</p>
<p>
<li>Perform intervals</p>
<p>
<li>Increase distance traveled</p>
<p>
<li>Cross train by performing numerous activities</p>
</ul>

<p>Fad diets come and go, but The Atkins Diet, a high-protein, low-carbohydrate weight-loss plan, seems never to go away, no matter how many medical professionals denounce it.</p>
<p>&#8220;Low-carb diets have been linked to increased frequency of colon cancer, formation of kidney stones, kidney disease, and even osteoporosis,&#8221; says Neal Barnard, MD, president of the Physicians Commission for Responsible Medicine, a nonprofit research group based in Washington. &#8220;The weight loss you see in low-carb diets isn&#8217;t all that much better than what you see in studies of low-fat, vegetarian diets.&#8221;</p>
<p>A Pretty Evil Weight Loss Diet</p>
<p>Putting it more bluntly is Kiku Collins-Trentylon, a sports trainer in New York City, who says it&#8217;s &#8220;a pretty evil diet. We all want to sit on our couches, eat nonstop, and have perfect, sculpted bodies. Unfortunately, it doesn&#8217;t work that way.&#8221;</p>
<p>Meat is the culprit in low-carb diet danger, says Barnard.</p>
<p>&#8220;The reason for the health worries is in large part due to red meat,&#8221; he says. &#8220;People who eat meat every day have three times greater risk of developing colon cancer. And then there is the problem of the kidneys. They aren&#8217;t designed to work on an oil slick of fat.&#8221;</p>
<p>Big, Fat, High Protein Controversy</p>
<p>In the summer of 2002, however, both Time magazine and The Sunday New York Times Magazine have published much-talked-about stories that say Atkins may not be as bad for heart health as previously believed. These stories were sparked in part by a recent study from researchers at Duke University showing most people who ate a high-protein, low-carb diet for six months lost 20 pounds.</p>
<p>That much was expected. What wasn&#8217;t expected was that the researchers didn&#8217;t see strong evidence of the diet causing any health problems. In fact, both LDL &#8220;bad&#8221; cholesterol and HDL &#8220;good&#8221; cholesterol improved.</p>
<p>Low Carb Diet Can Produce Significant Weight Loss</p>
<p>The Duke study shows part of why the diet is so popular, it can produce significant weight loss. It also produces it without a lot of annoying calorie counting and the irritability associated with diets.</p>
<p>Known for Easy Weight Loss</p>
<p>&#8220;You&#8217;re not as hungry as with other diets, and that is a really good thing,&#8221; says Jenny Anderson, an Internet consultant from </p>
<p> Mamaroneck, N.Y., who is on the diet. &#8220;That makes it easier to stay on it. So does seeing results fairly quickly. One bad thing is that it forbids caffeine, and I had a lot of bad headaches from coffee withdrawal.&#8221;</p>
<p>Another drawback to the low-carb diet is its severely limited menu options.</p>
<p>&#8220;At first, eggs and bacon in butter for breakfast every day is fun, but day after day of only meat and fat at every meal can get tiresome,&#8221; says Anderson.</p>
<p>So therein lies the controversy. On one hand you have lots of stories of significant weight loss on a relatively user-friendly diet. On the other, you have dietitians and nutritionists who maintain that the weight loss produced is short-term and can threaten a person&#8217;s overall health, despite the fact that the weight loss itself may have the beneficial effect of lowering cholesterol.</p>
<p>Who is right? Maybe both sides. It provides weight loss at a very high cost to overall health, or at least that has been the prevailing medical opinion.</p>
<p>Low Carbohydrate Diet May Not Be As Bad As We Thought</p>
<p>&#8220;There have been reports in the medical literature that say that this low-carb diet may not be as bad as we thought,&#8221; says Susan Barr, registered dietitian in New York City. &#8220;That makes people interested again in this diet, but until there is more research on what stresses the diet places on the body, there is no way to know what it might be doing besides providing short-term weight loss.</p>
